Top tips to help you be Water Wise in and around your home.

Being careful with how much water you use can help make sure there's enough for everybody. Every drip, drop and splash counts.

  • Stick to 4 minute showers, and save precious water and energy (try using a timer or playing a 4-minute song - take a look at this Spotify playlist)
  • Collect warming-up water from the shower in a bucket for the garden
  • Install a water efficient showerhead - it could save over 10,000 litres a year 
  • Always run full loads in the washing machine and dishwasher, and on eco mode
  • Scrape your plates instead of rinsing before loading in the dishwasher
  • Plug the sink when washing dishes
  • Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth
  • Watering your gardens early (5am-10am) to beat evaporation
  • Add mulch to your garden beds to lock in moisture and keep roots cool on hot days
  • Plant native Australian plants - they thrive in dry conditions, creating a water wise garden
  • Sweep paths and driveways instead of hosing them down 
  • Only use a hose when needed, and always with a trigger nozzle
  • Got a pool? Cover it. You'll cut down on evaporation and save large volumes of water
  • Fix any leaking taps as soon as possible
  • Press the half-flush button on the toilet whenever you can to save thousands of litres every year
  • Reuse the water you use to rinse vergetables for your plants
  • Always follow the Permanent Water Savings Rules
